Mary Fanelli Lund brings a lifelong commitment to education, endurance sports, and
outdoor recreation to her work in the cycling community. Mary spent 25 years as a third
grade teacher in New York and Pennsylvania helping students build strong reading
skills.
In addition to her classroom career, she also worked in specialty retail, including 25
years at running stores giving her hands-on experience supporting athletes of all
backgrounds and abilities.
An accomplished endurance athlete, Mary has been a competitive runner, triathlete, and
has participated in road, cyclocross, and mountain bike riding events. In 2019, she
completed Bike the US for MS, a cross-country bicycle ride across the United States
raising funds to support research for Multiple Sclerosis.
Since relocating to Bend from the Philadelphia area, Mary has traded classroom time
for outdoor adventures on her gravel bike, Nordic skis, and SUP. Working with
customers at Web Cyclery for five years gave her the confirmation and appreciation that
all bikes can bring happiness and pursuit of adventure. In addition to spending time on
trails, you may find her volunteering among the shelves of books at the Deschutes
Library and as a storyteller in its literacy outreach programs.
Some of her favorite Dirty Freehub rides include Skydog, Poke the Bear, McKay CreekLollipop, and any routes in the Willamette National Forest. Her goal is to ride
Rajneeshee in the near future!
