Bring People Together.
Sometimes the best part of a gravel ride is the people you meet along the way.
Our Ride Organizers help create welcoming community rides where cyclists can discover new places, share experiences, and build lasting connections.
At Dirty Freehub, we believe gravel cycling is about more than miles and elevation gain. It’s about adventure, exploration, and the camaraderie that comes from sharing a challenging climb, an unexpected discovery, or a great story at the end of the day.
Our community rides are volunteer-led, informal, and focused on the experience rather than competition. Whether it’s introducing someone to their first gravel ride or bringing experienced riders together to explore a new route, Ride Organizers help make it happen.
You pick the ride. You bring people together. We’ll help spread the word.
What Does a Ride Organizer Do?
Ride Organizers are the people who make community rides happen. They choose a Dirty Freehub route, select a date and time, and help create an inviting experience for other riders.
You don’t need to be a professional event planner or a certified ride leader. You just need to enjoy riding with others, communicate clearly, and be willing to take the lead in getting a group together.
Typical activities:
- Choose a route. Select a Dirty Freehub route that suits the group’s interests and abilities.
- Set the details. Pick a date, start time, meeting location, and expected pace.
- Spread the word. Coordinate with Dirty Freehub to publicize the ride through community channels. Share route difficulty, preparedness considerations, and the importance of responsible riding.
- Welcome riders. Help participants feel included, especially those new to gravel cycling or the area.
- Share the experience. Post photos, stories, and post-ride feedback to help bring the community together.
You don’t need to organize rides every week or every month. Some organizers lead occasional rides; others make it a regular part of their cycling calendar.
The goal is simple: make it easier for people to get out, ride, and connect.
What Makes a Dirty Freehub Community Ride Different?
Our rides aren’t races. They’re opportunities to explore great routes, meet interesting people, and enjoy the adventure together.
- Community over competition. The people and shared experience matter more than finishing first.
- Adventure and discovery. Explore remarkable landscapes, quiet backroads, and small rural communities.
- Personal responsibility. Participants come prepared for the route, conditions, and challenges. These are community rides, not fully supported events.
- Respect for place. Ride responsibly, respect landowners and local communities, and support businesses along the way.
A great community ride doesn’t need to be complicated. Sometimes all it takes is a good route, a meeting place, and someone willing to say, “Let’s go ride!”
What You Get Out of It
Being a Ride Organizer isn’t just about planning rides. It’s about building a community around something you love.
- Meet more riders. Connect with people who share your curiosity, sense of adventure, and love of gravel roads.
- Explore new places. Discover another Dirty Freehub route or revisit an old favorite with new friends.
- Build your local riding community. Create opportunities for people to ride together and develop lasting friendships.
- Make a meaningful contribution. Help others discover gravel cycling and connect with the places they ride.
- Have fun. Enjoy a memorable day on the bike with good people.
The best part? You get to enjoy the ride, too.
Ride with Purpose. Build Community.
Community rides are also a form of stewardship.
When riders explore a new place, learn its stories, stop at a local café, or share what makes a landscape special, they develop a deeper connection to it. And people who feel connected to a place are more likely to care about its future.
That’s why Ride Organizers are part of Dirty Freehub’s broader stewardship initiative, alongside the Scout Program and the Dirty Roads Crew.
Different ways to give back. One shared love of the places we ride.
