Happy Camp

5 Star Route

“Happy”, that’s the song you’ll be singing on this ride. Well maybe after you finish the first climb… 1,000 feet in 4.5 miles, right out of the car. But wait until the finish, coming down that baby, 35 miles later. We call it a signature downhill. Swooping switchbacks and killer views.

Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do
~ Pharrell Williams

And what’s in between the beginning and end? A whole lotta of classic Ochoco Forest: streams, mountain meadows, Ponderosa trees and big open skies with endless fresh oxygen that keeps you humming along.

Ride Details

From the parking area, head south on Buck Point road / NF-12 (paved). It is immediately uphill! And continues uphill for the next 4.5 miles gaining 1600 feet. As you climb up and into the Ponderosa forests, there will be views to the north of the valley below. Near the summit there is a 1 mile section that averages 9.5%. But … on the return, this hill is so fun! **Click to Read More

– Surface: ~ 60% gravel, 40% paved
eBike Friendly: Yes
– Location: ~ 1 hour, 50 minutes east of Bend, Oregon

Moderate. Due to: (a) some sections of gnar and cobbled road surfaces and (b) the remote “off-grid” nature of the ride.

When we like to ride this …

Mid spring through mid summer when the creeks are flowing, the wetlands are full of water and the flowers are in full bloom. The beauty of this ride is highly dependent on the water flowing. The creek flows typically peak in mid May.

The Start

A makeshift / dirt pull out on the east side of Buck Point road / NF-12, about 1.2 miles from the intersection with Highway 26.
