Sawyer Training: Chainsaw

After this early winter’s windstorms and the severe flooding from three atmospheric rivers in a row, we’re seeing more downed trees and blocked trails than we can tackle with our current saw team. Dirty Freehub needs more sawyers—and we’d love for you to be one of them.

With the major Forest Service cutbacks in 2025, trail clearing and maintenance are increasingly falling to nonprofits and local volunteer crews. The good news? Getting trained is one of the most direct ways to make a real impact on the places we all ride, run, and explore. Whether you’re brand new to trail work or you’ve been wanting to level up your skills, these classes are a welcoming, hands-on way to get involved and become part of the solution.

There is an upcoming chainsaw class in Central Oregon in Spring 2026, offered by the Central Oregon Trail Alliance (COTA). Registration is now open:

Chainsaw Class: May 2–3

More details and registration are available here.

If you’ve ever wanted to play a bigger role in keeping our routes open, safe, and rideable, this is a great place to start. We’ll train you, support you, and plug you into meaningful work crew opportunities across our region.

See you out there,

Koira
