DownloadThis ride has little shade, so if you’re choosing to do it in the summer, get an early start! We think that late spring will showcase green hills, and late fall will showcase a wide variety of oranges, yellows, and taupe.
As you head south out of Condon on a paved downhill road, tall basalt cliffs will guide your way. After 8 miles, you’ll leave the unincorporated town of Thirty Mile, the pavement, and the canyon behind as you start to climb to the plateaus. After nearly 12 miles, you’ll find yourself at the southernmost tip of this loop, and the highest point of this route.
Near Hotel Condon, on Main street.
We recommend a red, blinking light with a radar detector for this route. This area can have light traffic from residents and workers on the surrounding ranches and farms. As a guest in this community be friendly. A simple wave or a brief chat with a farmer or rancher is often appreciated and can make your experience even more enjoyable.
“A key factor for this ride is wind. We rode clockwise and endured a headwind up the final climb into Condon. We think the route can be ridden in either direction.” ~ DavidG
