Optimal riding conditions cane found before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. The Deschutes River Trail section can be very busy with walkers and hikers during the summer months and the gravel roads in this area become very dried out and harbor inches of moon dust. What is below the moon dust is anybody’s guess, but this stuff has caused a number of falls.
This route’s terrain includes some fun to ride elements that are rarely ridden and has a long single track section along the Deschutes River that is absolutely gorgeous! But … this route is not for everybody. You need good technical skills on the gravel bike. In summer months, sections will have heavy amounts of moon dust and rutted washboard. Miles 15 to 25 are the least desirable of the route and we are looking for better options. If you have suggestions, please let us know.
