The following is Version 2 of this route. Version V1 was taken on by Michelle and Gautum of the Dirty Freehub team during the summer of 2021. They called it “one of the harder and most demanding routes they had done all summer long.” It had sections of rough railroad ballast, some primitive double-track and a bit of hike-a-bike. But it also had some exquisite riding sections. (See the highlights section for what we know.) Since then, we have made changes to the route, in an effort to hopefully make it better. But…we don’t know. That’s where we need you help. Go ride this thing and give us some feedback. But…go prepared and don’t go undersized on tires!

Caution, this is a Development Route. It has not been fully vetted or ridden by the Dirty Freehub Team. Go prepared and expect a bit more adventure. Any feedback you have would be much appreciated. You can leave it below in the comments block.

Terrain & Riding

Below is the our best knowledge of the route. If you give it a go, more detailed feedback would be really appreciated!

~ Miles 0 to 14

Good hard packed gravel road. Moderate but continuous climb of 1600 feet. Some views to the north of the Sumpter valley below.

~ Miles 14 to 24

This is the most rugged sector, where railroad ballast has been laid in areas for erosion and water control.

~ Miles 24 to 28

State Highway OR 7. A bump of a climb, then mostly descending. Lightly trafficked, but recommend a red blinky light and single file riding.

~ Miles 28 to 31

A proper gravel road.

~ Miles 31 to 39

Unknown.

~ Miles 39 to 41

A proper gravel road.

~ Miles 41 to Finish

Some great riding drop bar single-track with great views of the reservoir backdropped by the mountains to the north.

The Start

Lat / Long: 44.673436, -117.995079

Pull off on side of gravel road. No services.
